Laguna de Los Tres Fitz Roy Trek

Starting from Río Eléctrico, located about 15 km north of El Chaltén, this variation of the classic trek provides a quieter and more gradual approach. The trail begins by crossing the Río Eléctrico bridge and gently follows the Río Blanco valley through beautiful lenga and ñire forests, allowing hikers to ease into the landscape while enjoying a more secluded environment compared to the traditional trail from town.

As you progress, the forest opens up to reveal impressive views of the Piedras Blancas Glacier, one of the most striking hanging glaciers in the region. The trail then continues toward Poincenot Base Camp, where it connects with the main route coming from El Chaltén. From here, after a short walk to Río Blanco Base Camp, the final challenge begins.

The last section is a steep and demanding ascent of approximately 400 meters (1,300 ft) over rocky terrain, leading to Laguna de los Tres. This climb, though strenuous, rewards you with one of the most breathtaking panoramas in Patagonia: the turquoise lagoon set beneath the dramatic spires of Fitz Roy and its surrounding peaks. Just a short distance away, you can also visit the viewpoint overlooking Laguna Sucia, known for its darker waters and hanging glaciers.
